Biography
Editorial cartoonist, Ralph Dunagin, is a native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and a veteran of the US Marine Corps. He is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, where he studied graphic art. In 1961, he joined the Orlando Sentinel as an illustrator. During his thirty years tenure, he served as illustrator, art director, and editorial cartoonist. He aslo served on the paper's editorial board until his retirement in 2001.
In 1967, he created the internationally syndicated cartoon, "Dunagin's People". Additionally, he wrote the text for "Grin and Bear It", a syndicated cartoon illustrated by Fred Wagner. He collaborated with Dana Summers on the creation of "The Middletons", another popular syndicated cartoon. His work has earned him two nominations for the Pulitzer Prize.
