Francis X. Kuhn "Voices of Freedom Summer" Collection
Form of Material
Two video tapes and two printed programs of the encore performance of "Voices of Freedom Summer" and "Songs of Reflection", presented in Bennett Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus of the University of Southern Mississippi on February 28, 2000. Conceived, written and directed by USM theater professor Francis X. Kuhn, "Voices of Freedom Summer" is a dramatic reading for four voices with guitar accompaniment which retells the story of Mississippi Freedom Summer 1964 in words from actual documents, letters, speeches, and songs of the time.
The program concludes with "Songs of Reflection" sung by USM's distinguished soprano and professor of music Dr. Kimberley Davis. The program was first performed in USM's Mannoni Performing Arts Center on September 17, 1999.
