This collection contains the manuscripts, notes, correspondence, and promotional materials of Mississippi author John Armistead. The collection contains the manuscripts from A Legacy of Vengeance, A Homecoming for Murder, and Cruel as the Grave. Also included is a master copyedited version of The $66 Summer, as well as hand written notes by Armistead and correspondence between Armistead and his publishers.

Biographical / Historical

John Armistead, was born on June 14, 1941, in Mobile, Alabama. Armistead received his Bachelor of Arts from Mississippi College in 1963, a Masters of Divinity from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in 1966, and a Doctorate of Ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1975, and a Masters of Arts from the University of Mississippi in 1987. Armistead has also studied at the Graduate Theological Union of Berkeley and Sorrento Linque International Language Institute in Sorrento, Italy. John Armistead was a Baptist minister for nineteen years and he also written for the Southern Baptist Sunday School Board, and the Tupelo Daily Journal. John Armistead was also a high school and kindergarten teacher and pastored in multiple states such as Mississippi, California, and Hawaii.

Armistead is a novelist responsible for works such as Cruel as the Grave, A Homecoming for Murder, A Legacy of Vengeance, The $66 Summer, and The Return of Gabriel. Armistead began publishing his stories in 1970s, and his first book A Legacy of Vengeance was published in 1994.
