Biographical / Historical
Politics has been defined as the art and science of government, and as the profession devoted to governing. British historian and author Harold D. Laswell defined politics as, “Who gets what, when, and how.” Whatever the definition, the state of Mississippi has had a long, rich political history, with a liberal sprinkling of colorful politicians. For instance, Theodore G. Bilbo was a very interesting character, who served Mississippi as both governor and U.S. Senator. He and other politicians in the state tended to mount very unique campaigns that grabbed the people’s attention and held it.
